Overview

Managing finance to maximise organisational and programme impact

Next courses

  • 25 – 27 November 2015, Geneva, Switzerland

The three-day course Leadership using financial management and communication is aimed at equipping NGO chief executive officers and directors, members of senior management teams, senior program staff, experienced people in their own field looking to move into senior management, with advanced finance skills. Whether working at a head office or with a non-profit organisation internationally, it provides the means to effectively and efficiently manage financial resources at a senior level. Senior managers, or those with the potential to be so, may have picked up skills along the way, but need a chance to learn more deeply and ask questions without ‘loosing face’.

Participants will learn how to apply financial management skills and techniques including strategic financial management techniques, ‘reality checks’ and fraud prevention, the accountant’s approach to management and their challenges, and managing finance to maximize organisational and program impact. They will also learn how financial communication skills can be used to help relationships between finance, non-finance people, boards, and other stakeholders to flourish, and as a result, to help an NGO to have more

Methodology

The workshop helps participants learn to use the financial management skills vital for senior management. The flexible, practical and interactive sessions use a balance of short inputs, discussions, group work, and individual activities.

Participants will have opportunities to share their experience and to learn from each other. It will also allow participants time to adapt the topics for their own and their partner organisations with coaching support from the course facilitator.

The course encourages participants to use the skills learned in their own work situation, and so release their own and colleague’s potential.
